Arkansas Registered Agent Rules for LLCs
Arkansas wrote its registered agent law by adopting the Model Registered Agents Act (Act 638 of 2007, codified at Ark. Code Ann. §§ 4-20-104 and 4-20-105), and the LLC statute requires the agent to be named right in your Certificate of Organization. From formation until dissolution, the Secretary of State expects a valid agent on file for your company at all times.
The Job Description
Your registered agent is where Arkansas delivers the things that cannot wait: lawsuits, subpoenas, official notices from the Business and Commercial Services Division. The agent's name and address are public record, searchable by anyone, which is how courts and creditors guarantee your LLC can always be found.
Who May Serve Under the Model Act
Arkansas gives you three lawful options for the agent role:
- A commercial registered agent, a professional agent listed with the Secretary of State
- A noncommercial registered agent, meaning an individual or a domestic or foreign entity serving as agent in Arkansas
- The holder of a designated office or position within the company itself, under § 4-20-105(a)(2)(B)
That last option surprises people: Arkansas lets you designate an internal office or position (its current holder receives process) rather than a named outsider. What the statute forbids is narrower than folklore suggests. The LLC cannot name itself as its own registered agent, but an individual owner or an internal office-holder serving is squarely within the law.

Get StartedEvery registered agent filing must state an actual street address or rural route box number in Arkansas, plus an in-state mailing address if that differs (§ 4-20-104). A PO box standing alone fails the requirement. Whoever serves also needs to genuinely be at that address during business hours, because a process server with nobody to hand papers to defeats the entire system.
